Brief Sketch:
Dr. Rachel Behar graduated from Theopolis College with a M.S. in Genetic Engineering, then went on to MIT to receive her Ph.D. She completed her Postdoctoral work at the Desert Research Institute in Reno, NV, specializing in drought resistant native plants. After three years working at an international agrochemical company in the Negev researching drought-resistant legumes, she took her current job with the US Department of Agriculture leading a research team in the genetic manipulation of native desert plant species for agriculture. She currently holds three patents, and has been awarded the coveted “World Food Prize” for her work with drought-resistant chickpea seeds.
